Permanent Residence

Permanent residency refers to those individuals who are not Canadian citizens but who have been granted permission to live and work in Canada without any time limit on their stay.

  • Eligible individuals may apply for permanent residence under the following categories:
    • Federal Skilled Worker
    • Business Class (currently on hold)
    • Family Class
    • In-Canada Spousal Class
    • Live-in Caregiver Class
    • Canadian Experience Class
    • Provincial Nominee
  • Calculating permanent resident for five (5) years or more:
    • The applicant must be physically present in Canada for a minimum of 730 days within the past five years
  • If the applicant has been a permanent resident for less than five (5) years:
    • Must be able to prove that they can meet the minimum of 730 days of being physically present in Canada
  • Time spent outside of Canada with supporting documents:
    • Accompanying a Canadian citizen or permanent resident outside of Canada
    • Employment outside of Canada
